JFK Cigar Box - Cuban Missle Crisis - G & S Pawn Scores Big on Sale!

President John F Kennedy ordered an aide to buy him as many Cuban cigars as he could just hours before he authorized the U.S. trade embargo - which subsequently made them illegal.

Kennedy asked his head of press and fellow cigar smoker Pierre Salinger to obtain '1,000 Petite Up Mann's on February 6, 1962, so he could have them in his hands before they were deemed contraband.  Then, seconds after he was told the next morning that 1,200 of Cuba's finest export had been bought for him, he signed the decree to ban all of the communist state's products from the U.S.

A piece of presidential history walked into the shop on "Pawn Stars." Rick was genuinely blown away at the sight of John F. Kennedy's cigar box that he'd used at the White House. The box even had some of Kennedy's unsmoked cigars still in it.

The seller was seeking $95,000 for the box, but after some hard negotiating, he was willing to settle for Rick's offer of $60,000. Considering another of JFK's cigar boxes sold for more than $500,000 to the publisher of Cigar Aficionado back in the 1990s.

Rick Harrison is the genius of Vegas Pawn Stars. He worked hard to get the concept of the show to tv and it has produced results no one could imagine! Each day about 4,000 people visit the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop on the Las Vegas Strip. No, it's not a sign of the recession.

The series depicts the staff's interactions with customers, who bring in a variety of artifacts to sell or pawn and who are shown haggling over the price and discussing its historical background, with narration provided by either the Harrisons or Chumlee. The series also follows the interpersonal conflicts among the cast.
